Résumé: In the context of the resettlement of Syrian refugees, Canadians were expected to embrace the Canadian Exceptionalism and welcome Syrian refugees with arms wide open in an era of alternative facts, fake news, and hate speech against refugees. On the front lines, youth between 18 and 24 were prime candidates to lead the change from spreading hate to welcome these newcomers. We adopted a constructivist psychology methodology to understand how a group of 22 Canadian youth construed their role in the integration and the inclusion of Syrian refugees while their image was tainted by social media propaganda. We present the findings from more than 100 hours of in-depth interviews to discuss how youth learned to lead disruption through online discourses against cyberbullying, hate speech, Islamophobia and racism.
